The main part starts here.
Maiko Ishiwata's "Toritachi no Shinwa" is on display at Yui no Mori Arakawa.
Explanation of the work
I created this piece with the theme of "searching for yourself."
The child sitting on the cloud is an expression of myself. I depicted my inexperienced self setting out on a trip of self-discovery while the birds guide me.
Also, the birds appearing in this work reference a motif from the Buddhist story "The Six Birds of the Pure Land," with various birds transforming into the Buddha and giving guidance for my journey.
I decided to look back on myself and the people I was involved with when my worth seemed determined by the way other people in society looked at me and I was unable to truly face myself. In creating this piece, I tried to express my feelings honestly. In this way, I feel I was able to realize once more where I had gotten lost and affirm my self.
