Izumi Tanaka's "Shizen to Hito" is on display at Oku Library.
Explanation of work
This work imitates the form of a local clay doll toy.
I collected the clay myself and fired it in an open field, then used ancient mud-dyed pigment to add color.
These kinds of dolls were produced in areas all over the Japan in ancient times, but they have declined with the passage of time. These customs were an expression of local beliefs and prayers, supported by nature.
Precisely because it's so easy to live apart from one another in our modern world, I believe these local customs are essential for human life.
