Yurie Ura's "Hirusagari no Teireikai" is on display at Yuinomori Arakawa.
Explanation of the work
Monkeys also have personalities and communities, and each animal has its own position within the hierarchy. Rather than considering only the species, I wanted to express that unique individual character. By using human-like movements and clothing, I achieved a look which is familiar and easy to accept. It's the kind of humor that makes it amusing when you get a sense of humanity from a scene with animals or insects, and I find it similar to that fond feeling when an animal resemble someone's you know. This is a major element I incorporated as part of my expression of personality and community.
When I saw monkeys in a zoo, due to their posture and movements which were similar to humans, I found it strange that a single species was kept in a cage by themselves and created this piece in the hope that it can help people sense the individual personalities of each animal and see them in a different way.
The scene is 6 monkeys gathered together for a regular afternoon meeting discussing a certain topic and sharing their opinions.
