The main part starts here.
Kenji Iimura's "Meisekimu" is on display at the Ishihama Community Center.
Explanation of the work
I use bronze material to search out the "face" that exists within shapes, draw it out, and make efforts to create a comfortable shape.
The rough surface of bronze and the lustrous shine of the "face" portion creates an contrast that brings interesting questions to mind.
Is this reality or a dream?
Is this concrete or abstract?
Or somewhere in between?
This makes the space of a sculpture richer. I combined my impression of that kind of form with a word I've been hearing a lot lately, "meisekimu" (lucid dreaming), and decided on the motif of the mythological baku creature said to devour dreams.
From the mysterious space surrounding the baku, I hope you will get a comfortable feeling that makes you want to walk around the outside.
