Explanation of the work
When I'm touching rock, it gives me a subtle feeling. Looking at this material far older than any human, which formed through accumulation and pressurization of materials underground and was then cut away, I realize how impermanent my own life really is. It's also a moment I imagine myself as a transcendent being rising above all of nature.
Everything will one day turn to dust, and remembering that gives me confirmation of my own existence. Although I will return to dust some day, there is a "present" for me, and I meet other people who also have one. I'm grateful for this miracle.
When walking the path of a long life, I want to carry that trust with me and life my life. I carved this boy carrying a sheep to express that feeling.
