【Sculpture】Journey of Joulupukki
In front of the Arakawa Park Community House in the Arakawa Ward, there is a sculpture by Mari Iida entitled "Journey of Joulupukki".
Description of the Work:
The entire sleigh is made of iron and crafted using the "forging" technique, which involves heating iron plates and rods and striking them with a hammer until they turn red. The heated iron becomes pliable like clay, allowing it to be transformed into various shapes. "Joulupukki" is Finnish for Santa Claus. In the Santa Claus village in Rovaniemi, Finland, fairies work to create toys to distribute to children worldwide. This sleigh is resting and waiting for Christmas. Upon Santa's arrival on Christmas, the black sleigh comes to life and colors in an instant, taking off into the sky alongside the reindeer.
