Kumano Shrine
It is said that the shrine began in 1050 when Minamoto no Yoshiie, who was on his way to attack Oshu, prayed for crossing the Arakawa River (present-day Sumida River) and enshrined Kumano's gohei. When the Senju Ohashi Bridge was built over the Arakawa River, the Kanto district governor, Ina Bizen no kami Tadatsugu, prayed for the company's success, and when the bridge was completed in 1594, the shrine was repaired using the official materials. Since then, he has been enshrined as the guardian deity of Senju Ohashi Bridge, and it is said that it has become customary to pray for him every time the bridge is replaced and to repair the shrine building.
※Normally, the gates are locked for security reasons and no one is allowed to enter the grounds.
